Homemade Maple Syrup

Knowing how to make maple-flavored syrup at home is a simple, handy kitchen hack that will ensure you never have to go without delicious syrup on your waffles. Why pay big bucks for a tiny bottle of the real stuff (I pay $6.99 for 8 oz. – this is less than $1 for 24 oz.) when this simple recipe is a really tasty solution – I tried side by side with the “real stuff” and this was PERFECT!

Ingredients:

1 cup water

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon maple extract

Dash of vanilla extract

Directions:

Bring water to a boil over medium heat. Reduce to a low simmer and stir in the sugar.

Cook, stirring continually, until sugar has dissolved completely and begins to thicken slightly.

Note: Maple syrup is supposed thinner than store bought “pancake syrup” made with corn syrup and all syrup is thinner when warm.

Remove from heat and stir in maple and vanilla.

Serve warm.

Store leftover syrup in the fridge.
